Hey there and welcome! I’m Heather, author of Simple Revisions.

I am married to my best friend, Chris, and we have four children ranging in ages 19-6. We currently live on the East Coast and hope to never be too far from a beach.

Like most families, we lived a constant, on-the-go lifestyle. Between working, deployments, having four children, school, extra curricular activities, and so on, we hustled to just get through each day, only to go to bed and do it all over again.

With that came purchasing pre-made foods, dining out and picking up fast food more often than we would like to admit.

In 2012, I tried making dinner rolls from scratch for the first time instead of buying our favorite pre-made ones at the store. After I made them, I realized that not only did they taste better than my favorite store bought brand, but they were easy to make and saved us money by making them ourselves.

I started baking and cooking from scratch more and just fell in love.

I no longer get anxiety when following a new recipe, worried that I will somehow mess it up. I love developing new recipes and playing with ingredients, trying different combinations to customize a recipe that works best for our family. (Try cooking dishes when your husband despises onions, you hate chunks of garlic, and the kids have their own list of gag-inducing ingredients.)

Fast forward a few years, I get requests for custom cakes and cupcakes for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, reunions and other various celebrations. Say what??

Not only do I feel truly honored that my friends, neighbors and colleagues reach out to me and ask me to make customized desserts for the special occasions in their lives, but they actually eat the dessert, too.

Just kidding. But not really. Because they have to, right?

This personal blog is not only a space I created for my love of writing, baking and photography, but also to serve as inspiration for anyone interested in making little changes, or simple revisions, in order to create a more satisfying and fulfilling life. It’s about finding ways to create more space for the people and things that matter most.

There was a time, not too long ago, where I was too busy to slow down long enough to experience and savor the little, precious moments in life. The ones that are important. The ones that matter.

The moments that you can’t get back.

Each day I am making a more conscious effort to slow down and enjoy a life filled with contentment, purpose, beloved family memories, lots of laughter and delicious food.

It’s a work in progress, and I invite you to grab a cup of coffee or glass of wine and stay for a while.
